Plymouth

Although it is a bit windy and wet for July (this is the UK, what do you expect?), we have had a good visit to Plymouth harbour. This has been exciting for several reasons.

Firstly, I am staying with friends. Staying in their as-yet-unbooked holiday cottage, but over the lane from their house. Secondly, we have met some other friends in Plymouth and done some socially-distanced wandering about, round the harbour, past the Barbican and the Hoe.

We have also been to a restaurant. And had coffee in a cafe! These facts are more exciting than the rest, given that we have not been able to do these apparently mundane things for over three months.

Whilst the restaurants and the cafes are working hard at hygiene and social distancing, not all the public continue to be so aware. Part of the trouble is that, once you get up to a certain number of people, it is impossible to get far enough away from them without getting run over.

This appealing mixture is mushy peas with curry sauce and a chilli.
Fish and chips!
The Prawn, Plymouth Harbour. Just by the Mayflower steps, for all the Americans. The celebration of the 400th anniversary has been cancelled.
A battleship of some kind.

  1. Mushy peas, curry sauce and a chilli? I lived in Bolton and even there that would be considered a perversion of mushy peas.
Glad to know that you’re getting a change of scenery – it looks like an interesting place, albeit an empty-ish one.
