Longleat is a splendid 16C house in Wiltshire, very near to where I am currently living.
Longleat House
In 1966, the then Marquess of Bath, whose family has owned the house since it was built, decided to raise some much needed money by opening a safari park – the first one in Britain.
The safari park is still very successful and has just reopened after the virus. The house is still closed. These are some of the animals we saw and, it being Great Britain in August, it was raining.

Normally you can go into the aviary with them and feed them but that, being indoors, is closed.Of course, despite the PR department’s best efforts, very few people were attending to this or wearing masks.Damp macaw. If that’s a hyacinth macaw they’re rare and incredibly valuable and absolutely gorgeous.
