Eisenach

Coach trip across the beautiful countryside to Eisenach where Bach was born and Martin Luther spent most of his childhood.

Martin Luther house and museum. Much restored, they thought there was actually nothing left of the house he inhabited until they did some dating on the timbers and found one cut down in the 13C.
St George. In a kilt! With a very dead looking dragon. This is from a priest’s cope that was remade into an altar frontal after the Reformation.
Bach’s baptism record on display in the Martin Luther museum. the Bach museum, down the street, only has a facsimile.
Outside the Bach museum they have thought of everything. Dog parking zone.
At the Bach museum they have a collection of old instruments. This young man (philosophy student) was explaining and playing them.
St George’s church. We had a concert here with Vox Luminis.
St George’s Church. No indication as to who the enormous pew was built for but presumably the local Lord. The GDR wasn’t keen on that sort of thing.
