Sydney and jet lag.

After what seemed like endless hours in the Emirates limbo, I tumbled out into the bright sunshine of an Australian spring morning. The super efficient air conditioning meant my sinuses felt sand blasted. Watching both Mad Max Furiosa and Dune 2 probably didn’t help – all those deserts.

Another limousine ride to my hotel and a spot of begging (and extra money) to let me check in at 7.30 am instead of 2pm and I could finally change my clothes and have a wash. I have managed to stay awake most of the day in an effort to convince my body that Monday night is actually Tuesday morning. Off for some lunch and a wander around the harbour.

This house was built in 1819 and stands on the site of the original wharf. These days it’s next to the cruise ship terminal but you can’t have everything.
A better view of Sydney Harbour Bridge than last time when it was obscured by the smoke of many fires.
The Opera House looms.

I ate lunch at a restaurant under the Opera House where I was harassed by seagulls. And that’s not an easy thing to drive off when eating dim sum with chopsticks. Surrounded by Chinese people.

Fig tree in the Botanic Gardens.
Ibises lurking in the tree over the bin outside the Botanic Gardens cafe.

Captain Bligh. Not a prepossessing man from the look of him.
My hotel is in The Rocks area. Part of the original settlement.
Interesting privatised postbox.
More Victorian buildings in The Rocks.
Part of an interesting three way sculpture representing the original archetypes. This is The Convict.
