Jet lag day 2

Although it is waning. I managed to stay awake (vaguely) until 8.30 last night and then passed out until 1.30. Managed a bit more between 3 and 7 so that might make a whole night. Fingers crossed I don’t drop off in the opera house tonight.

Today I went on a boat around the harbour although I only got off in one place – Manly. Remembered once I’d landed that I went there last time as well but it’s a nice suburb with beaches on both sides – the harbour and the sea – and a surf training school. I’m pretty sure I went to the same restaurant as last time as well.

Parting view of Circular Quay with an enormous cruise ship blocking the middle of the picture. When you see them up close you realise how much like a floating office block they are. And I don’t think that one is one of the biggest.
A more traditional parting view.
I was wondering whether this was the replica of Captain Cook’s ship I saw in New Zealand five years ago when I realised it couldn’t be an accurate replica as it was motoring across the bay.
View of beach with old house. It’s interesting studying the houses with sea views – some of them are old fashioned ones with terraces and verandas, others much more modern with vast picture windows.
Another more traditional bungalow in a nature reserve with a lighthouse.
There are shops like this all over the place. I feel my diet may be kaput.
Although salad for lunch…. I was assured the brown stuff was real bacon but they must have weird pigs in Oz. Looked like some sort of vegan substitute to me. And who puts bacon of whatever sort on a Caesar salad?
We are sailing……

This evening went to see the musical Sunset Boulevard at the Opera House. Very like the film except with songs and they made it clear that our hero was definitely a gigolo. Interesting audience reactions – lot of them obviously not seen the film so didn’t know the plot. Several went ‘yuk’ when it became obvious that our hero was being kept by the heroine in all senses of the word. I’ve just looked it up to check it is by Andrew Lloyd- Webber and discovered that the leading lady was being played by none other than Sarah Brightman. Gosh. I was in the cheap seats….. also had to drink Diet Coke in the interval as jet lag creeping up again.

The bridge at night with the funfair behind.
Moonlight over the Opera House. I walked up all those steps only to discover the door at the top was locked. Architects eh?
Distant view of the stage before it started.
A notice I have never seen before in the ladies toilets.
