Up north

Invited to Dan’s sister’s beach house on the edge of Lake Michigan. This is 200 miles north west of Detroit, near the city of Muskegon.

Dan and Christopher are staying here so I have joined them for a few days. The journey (in a hired car) was long, boring and occasionally scary. They take their driving very seriously around here and people will do this journey for the day! The further north you go, the more apparent it gets that autumn is on its way. The trees up here are beginning to turn red and, sitting on the deck overlooking the lake a procession of monarch butterflies go past, on their way to Mexico. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarch_butterfly.

Lake Michigan with beach. Apparently the water has receded a lot even in the four years the family has owned the house.
Amusing ourselves.
Sunset.

I am on my holidays.
Today Dan and I went to the Farmer’s Market in Muskegon and bought fruit and vegetables. We also had coffee and doughnuts at the bakery and bought real cheese at the cheese shop. We then tried to sit on the beach but the wind got up.
