We have done two concerts in Aix, one on Saturday evening in a church in town and one on Sunday afternoon in the church of an old Cistercian monastery.

The concert (half us and half our hosts, Opus 13) went very well. We had an audience and even the conductor thought we were ok.

Having finished the buffet (and the following ‘soiree cabaret’) at 11pm, we were up and about to go out to Silvacane Abbey at 9am. We were taken in cars by our hosts. I was chauffeured with another couple by lovely people in a brand new enormous Range Rover (which, when we had to take a diversion to avoid an accident, could be lowered at the press of a button to get under a very low bridge). During a discussion of how expensive it was to live in Aix, they revealed their ownership of a ski chalet in the Val d’Isere. Nice work if you can get it.
After a tour of the abbey we were given another generous meal. Luckily, the wind had died down and it was quite warm.

Picnicking. The black blob in the middle with its back to the camera is me.

As it was the last night, lots of us went out to dinner in an Italian restaurant.

What lovely places to sing and I’m so glad the concerts went well. It was probably inevitable that a kneeling Range Rover would have another parking spot in Val D’Isere…and you have given me a laugh this morning. I was concentrating on the gorgeous and ancient cloister photo and then I thought, oh, they’re doing some roof repairs with all the tiles laid out until they can be replaced…?
