Well I finally got here – after trying at least twice previously. History – military fort then military prison then high security prison. Famous prisoners – Al Capone et al – and sad stories like the one who was imprisoned for being a (black) conscientious objector in the 1st world war who was chained standing to the front of his cell 8 hours a day and not released till 1920.
V v hot so visit quite hard work. As they kept telling us, it’s the equivalent of climbing to the 13th floor. The smiley face is what they put on to prove you have a ticket. 


Very interesting – but I can see that heat could be wearing. Hopefully, there was a bit of an offshore breeze on the way back.
