Lunch by the harbour. Please note purple sweet potato mash!

Turtle in the harbour.

Random horse on the cliff.

Moai in the quarry. Their fronts were carved lying down then they were slid down to go into these holes where the backs were carved. At least 2/3 of each of these in underground.

Tahai- remains of village with 3 platforms, moai put back up, chicken house and remains if houses and outdoor ovens.

Rongo rongo writing. Something to do with the birdman cult but no one has managed to translate it yet.

Volcanic crater. Only source of fresh water for the islanders for years and the only place any indigenous plants grow now.

And for Sonya…..

Absolutely fascinating – many thanks for the pics which have such brilliant colours – speaking of which, does purple mashed sweet potato taste ‘purple’?

Tastes like any other sweet potato but it was a bit of a surprise when it turned up! Especially as the menu said ‘tuberculos’
