Ua Huka

Well after yesterday’s jollies during the day, we had Polynesian evening on the boat. Tables, buffet and more traditional dancing on the pool deck. Dressing up requested – I feel it may be a sneaky trick to get us to the shop. Diet – referring you back to the baby whales above. I will be lucky if anything does up by the end of next week.

Today we are on the island of Ua Huka. Not very far from the previous one but much drier climate and only 350 inhabitants. Harbour is very small so captain had to do 3 point turn before roping it to both sides of the inlet. Nice driving.

Quay with bags of copra waiting to be exported to Tahiti on our boat. Again, driven around in more 4x4s than the island can possibly justify, visit to botanic garden, museum, historical artefacts etc. Agreed to walk to see historic site – only 1 1/2 miles away. Uphill was mentioned….. also heat. 🥵 Managed 2/3 of it but my lower back started to hurt so, when that happens, I have to stop what I am doing. Fine coming down though.

Now back on the ship contemplating shower and nap.

  1. Thanks for all the posts. It sounds like real hardship all this exploring the globe what with the food and sightseeing. I hope you manage to survive it!

  3. Lovely scenery, although you definitely get a strong sense of how precious the areas of flat land are for villages, etc., amongst the hills.
p.s. Almost the only good thing Father had to say about the huge liners that visited Invergordon when I lived there was that getting in and out of berths they could turn on a sixpence – it seems that modern ships have mini thrusters for turning in tight spaces. Dance on…
