Ua Pou

And on to the next island. Bit wetter and appears to be raining at the top of the crater like it was in Tahiti. Bit more of a relaxed day today. We are tied up at the pier so can wander on and off as we like – they scan us in and out just to make sure though.

Visit to jolly cultural centre – more shopping opportunities – and fruit tasting. I must admit that caramelised coconut is a new one on me. Everywhere we go, someone is playing the ukelele. Nice of them….

This was all followed by more dancing including a haka (see NZ rugby team for a different version). All very much seeing off the enemy.

Lunch – more raw fish, pork, bananas, mango, coconut milk. Two changes – beef with veg, tasting vaguely Chinese, and octopus curry.

In the sea this pm, watching the ship being unloaded and a number of children diving into the water off the mooring ropes. Off to see a film in French about Jacques Brel this evening after dinner. Got to keep my strength up!

  1. I wonder why ukeles? It’s not exactly George Formby country. Maybe they don’t lose tuning in tropical heat and humidity like other strings? Intriguing.
