Last day in Oz but one….

On the recommendation of Peter McGinness (thank you) I took the bus to Watson’s Bay to go to Doyle’s restaurant for lobster and chips. They have a restaurant that’s been there since the 1880s

And a take away. I went to the take away. Which all the local gulls know about.

This is the view from the beach. You can just see the harbour bridge over the trees.

Watson’s Bay is one of the oldest European settlements in Australia. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watsons_Bay,_New_South_Wales It’s a nice little village with old clapboard houses and modern plate glass things squeezed into the old plots. There was one for sale which was built in 1924 and owned by 3 generations of the same family. Looked like it needed doing up but the advertising stressed how it could be knocked down and rebuilt and you could even build two houses on the site. Ho hum.

I walked over the hill to the next bay and had coffee on the beach.

Then I decided to get rid of some of the accumulated ice cream and walk back. Only 4 miles, some of it downhill (and for each action there is an equal and opposite reaction n’est-ce pas?)

Went past this lighthouse. The original one on this site was the first one in Australia and built by a convict who was freed as a reward for doing so. The house on the left is the former keepers cottage which is now for sale for vast amounts of money.

Am now reclining on the sofa watching Judge John Deed and contemplating packing.

  1. Lobster & chips is a good way to end your travels. I watched a ‘Postcard from Sydney’ with Clive James a couple of days ago, in a tribute put on by the BBC. Doyles was recommended to him as the best fish restaurant in Sydney. The seafood platter that he and his host were tucking into made my mouth water. Safe journey home. Ann x
