And we reach the end

Today was my last day of doing stuff. I am leaving for Singapore tomorrow then London on Tuesday. Four and an half months gone just like that. However I have had a very good time, seen some old friends and been places I would never go otherwise. I will leave this blog open as I know some of you are running several days (weeks?) behind. You never know, I might be tempted to add to it.

I will be staying with my brother in Devon until the end of the month, then renting a house in Wiltshire from my friends. Nothing has happened about the legal issues around my lease and I am still arguing with the power companies about the contract. Ho hum. This means that I will be in London sometime fairly soon as I will have to go and check that there aren’t any leaks etc. Otherwise, open to offers!

Today I went to go trekking with elephants. Whilst there are quite a lot of elephant related activities about, a lot of them involve riding them which is apparently not a good thing to do. Partly because elephants need to eat for 18 hours a day, partly because they get very bored and partly, apparently, because their ovaries are next to their spine and too much pressure on them makes them infertile. Who knew?

Unfortunately I have some sort of food poisoning which made me feel worse and worse as the day went on. I did the elephant feeding business but then had to drop out when they started trekking. It was very hot which didn’t make it any better. One of the guys from the company took me back to headquarters across the river and then I had to stop to throw up half way up the steps to the headquarters. Four people appeared with water, cold flannels, an ice pack (I think they thought I had heatstroke) and then carefully escorted me up the remaining steps, sat me on the sofa with a glass of water and the fan on and then worried about me until the others came back. Bless. I still feel rather sick but I’m sure it will wear off. I have some pictures of me feeding the elephants and the ones of the trekking were given to me by a charming French couple.

  1. Very friendly-looking elephants, but I’m sorry on a number of counts – that you didn’t get to go on your treck, that you’re not feeling well (they may have been partly right about the heatstroke), but selfishly that my armchair tour of some amazing places is coming to an end. Mother and I will greatly miss the photos and stories with breakfast. What a collection of unique memories you’re bringing home and if it seems cold and damp, which it is right now, at least with a bit more time to spare, no planes, trains, buses, boats, etc., to catch, you can mull over everything at your leisure and bring it all to mind again through the photos. Safe journey and thankyou for taking us along for the ride.

  3. We’ve enjoyed your blog Ann, thanks!
Think you should continue your retiremental blog intermittently so that we can keep track of your movements and progress. Perhaps include some lovely snow pics as an arctic blast is heading our way next week!! Yikes! At least three will be no chance of getting sunstroke!
Have a safe trip back to the UK.
Let us know when you fancy a weekend trip to North Wales xx
