Hills of the North rejoice! Me and the dog are amongst you once more!

More travel, to friends and in search of family history. Wouldn’t it be lovely if you could guarantee going to anywhere in the UK by public transport? Although the dog has so much luggage……..

Loughborough

A town that used to be industrial but now appears to be mainly occupied by a university, it resembles many others. The main streets are pedestrianised but the shops are the usual combination of chains and charity. There are students everywhere (although the university doesn’t come back until next week), a lot of them in sports gear, and I have never seen people carrying lacrosse sticks before.

This is Queen’s Park and the carillon war memorial. The large bell is the mould for the largest of St Paul’s in London, cast in Loughborough.

Stoneywell

This is an Arts and Crafts house, built as a holiday home for a rich family at the very beginning of the 20C. It now belongs to the National Trust, who have restored it as it would have looked in the 1950s.

The house and grounds.
The main bedroom. The cupboard in the far left corner is the only one the architect provided.
Dining room window.
And who recognises these?
Well house in the garden.
