Corbridge

Some of this visit is to the same places I went in June so do refer back if you feel the need to see more pictures of the Pennines.

This is Corbridge – a delightful (and rich) town on the Tyne between Hexham and Newcastle. Lunch and shopping – always a good combination.

This is the bridge over the Tyne. Built in the 17C and rebuilt in the 19C, it claims to have been the only bridge still standing on the whole length of the river following a massive flood in 1771.
Even the pubs come in Farrow and Ball green.
This a Pele tower. The vicar’s pele – used as the vicarage until the 18C. The town is very interesting historically – starting with being the northernmost town in the Roman Empire. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corbridge

On the watershed between Northumberland and Cumbria.

Most of the land around in those pictures is privately owned grouse moor – the rest is sheep grazed fell.

  1. Not somewhere I know much about, so thanks for this. Sorry I haven’t been keeping up – down with Covid for 3 weeks, resurfacing now. Managed to avoid Mother catching it by not breathing out when I was in the same room. Hope that Dolly is enjoying her travels.
