Derbyshire – a week or so late

Ashbourne is Derbyshire is an attractive market town on a range of hills on the edge of the Peak District National Park. Shame about the traffic but you can say that about a lot of places.

Remnants of an old coaching inn – publicity for passing carriages.
View of the town from the playing fields.
Charles is better known as Bonnie Prince Charlie, the Young Pretender. James, his father (son of King James II) was the Old Pretender.
Apparently parking is more lucrative for the council than an actual market.

Tissington

Lovely village, just north of Ashbourne, centred around a Jacobean house, apparently home of the Fitzherbert family for 400 years. They have diversified into weddings, holiday cottages and craft-type shops. https://www.visitpeakdistrict.com/explore/towns-and-villages/tissington-p680331

Nice-looking farmhouse.
Scenic gate.
Duck pond! With ducks!
The Fitzherberts’ house, dating from the 17C.
